Hi everyone, I'm looking for ideas for dd's 16th birthday, later this month. I would like to do something special for her....but not sure what. We usually go out for lunch as a family and then back home for cake and presents, but am hoping for something a bit different or in addition to. As usual...I am stumped.... Thanks! Linda

Hm. Well, we had some fun bowling activities back then. There's a night time bowling place here, with disco lights and loud music, which was popular around that age. Cool but still plain old fun, and all the family can enjoy it. Dd has just told me that she approves of that idea. Dinner at a restaurant of her choice? Maybe somewhere dressier than usual, if that appeals to her; a lot of them like to dress up a bit at that age. Or even lunch somewhere completely different: at a theme park, or an amusement park, an aquarium or similar? Somewhere out of home territory. There is also a movie night, either at home or out, if there's a movie she's keen to see. If you want to include friends, there is also the dreaded sleepover. She could have a friend or two and an assortment of dvds and food of her choosing. Or she could take a friend to a movie, especially if it's at night. There is something more exciting about night time excursions at that age. I suppose the overall theme is that it's great to do something different or memorable. Actually, the kids all went to game days around that age too. Places like Dark Zone, where they can hire out the place for a few hours and play all manner of games of the electronic variety. Just checked; horrendously expensive and a minimum of 10 kids. Check out the teens bit: www.darkzone.com.au/index.php/bookings/birthdaysOr she may like to do something ridiculously decadent like have lunch with the family, then go and have a manicure with Mom. A formal dinner at home? Either for family or friends. I'm sure Br will have some better ideas. elisa

My daughter just had her 17th birthday, and was very happy with her flavour chips/crisps, soda, her ipod classic, and being able to drive. I will ask her though about other ideas.
