I am at a loss here and would like some ideas (I'm not very good at this type of thing at the best of times...)
Our neighbour, a spry young guy of 89 (and I say spry...because he still cuts wood with an axe and a chainsaw, climbs up on his roof to clean his chimney, cuts his grass etc....I wish I had half of his energy!) and his young son (47 ...that's young, right? ) look after getting our mail and keep an eye on our house when we are away for any length of time. They live together by themselves (the son never married, the wife of the older man has passed away)
I would like to get them something to thank them....but have absolutely no idea what to get for them. I don't really know too much about them (like their interests etc.) and I don't know that they go out to things (like restaurants etc.) other than to family. I know he has dietary restrictions too...so I have to be careful with food.
His daughter is here for a visit (she lives close to where my dad lives and I live close to where her dad lives) and I was thinking I may get a chance to ask her. Other than that, all I can come up with is a gift certificate from a gas station (I know they use that...it's a long way into town). But while that is practical....not sure how appropriate it is.
I also don't want to offend them....as he seems to really enjoy doing it (one time he was sort of upset that we didn't tell him/ask him when we went away for the weekend....but we thought we wouldn't bother them as there was no mail and we'd only be gone a couple of days)....but would like to extend our thanks.
Any ideas?
Thanks, ladies.
