Polar fleece.
Wool has always made my skin itchy, and back in the "old" days, it had to be hand washed. No wool cycle on washing machines way back then.
The combination of the above two was enough to put me off wool entirely, despite my abiding love of hand-knitted wool cardigans and jumpers/sweaters.
Eventually machine washable wool came along, and wool wash cycles, and then finally Merino wool. Most Merino wool is ok on me, provided it's cold. I still can't have most other wools anywhere near my skin.
But polar fleece ...... ah, it's like wearing a hug. I love it. No itch, no hand washing, no ironing. What could be better?
My first polar fleece item was a jacket from Target. After maybe 5 years, it looked dreadful. By then, the quality and range of polar fleece had expanded dramatically. There seems to be a fleece weight that's just right for every activity.
I've got one very warm fleece jacket whose outside looks like a regular knit, polar fleece track pants that look hideous but are oh, so nice to wear, and my favorite item of all - polar fleece socks. Bliss. ;D
What a wonderful invention polar fleece was. Even the dog's bed and blanket are made from it.
Anyone else a fan?

The ones I have are dated, but still. They are all good in their own way. I need to get some more.

Yup....I'm a BIG fan too.... ;D Just like you said, Elisa....it's just like wearing a hug... I find it's very light weight as well as ooohhh sooo soft. That's the perfect combination for my sore and achy body. Many times, regular weight clothes are just too much and they hurt too much to wear. Polar fleece works very, very well. I wear polar fleece lined sweatshirts and polar fleece lined track pants. I think I only have one pair of socks though.

Yes, I can see that polar fleece would be ideal for you, Linda.
Br, I don't think polar fleece is ever outdated.
The kids each have a polar fleece blanket/throw, and there's one on the family room couch too.
Ahhh, polar fleece. It's so soft and wonderful.

And while I'm on the subject....
What better feeling is there than the first moment of sinking into a warm bath on a cold day? The feeling of the warm water as it envelopes you. Bliss. No need to think, just lie there in the water.
A perfect hour (or two ;D ) for me would be to sink into a warm bath, with a good book, then hop out and dress in head to toe polar fleece.
Ok, so I wouldn't win any style awards, but it would feel marvellous. ;D
