Well, Linda, we are talking health, so if kangaroo meat is good for you, then you really should eat it, and seeing as fresh, locally produced food is best, then it looks like a trip here is necessary. ;D A week ago, eldest ds called from the supermarket to tell me about the bargains he'd found. One of them was kangaroo steak. I finally remembered to ask him what he thought of it, and he said it was really tasty and that he'd buy it again. I still won't eat it, though. ;D I've been buying chia seeds online for a while, and the company I buy them from has information about their benefits. www.thechiaco.com.au/They look like poppy seeds, but when wet, they become almost gelatinous, like tapioca or similar. They don't have much of a taste, and are small enough to disappear into cereal. The delivery postman (the fellow who delivers parcels, not letters) likes them on avocado-spread toast. I find that my delicate little (ha!) tummy has been much more relaxed and settled since I started eating chia seeds daily. I cannot eat lots of grain-based fibre or my stomach looks like I've swallowed a basketball, and I feel sick, but the chia is terrific. And I loooove tofu. It's a weird texture, and recipes containing tofu can be a bit fiddly. However, there are seasoned tofus at the supermarket, and sometimes dd and I will have that for dinner, just the tofu and some veg. It's very tasty. Elisa

Sooo..have you ever tried kangaroo, Elisa? I'm wondering if it's like the moose here...a lot of people hunt it/eat it. I've tried it...and not so sure I dislike it.....but it's the thought of it all..... It's too bad, because....I'm very well assured it would have no growth hormones, antibiotics etc., so it would be pure meat. Still can't get by the thought of it. I will have to look into chia seeds. I can't eat a lot of grain based fibre either...so perhaps chia seeds would work well for me too. Where does one buy them? We've only had tofu once. A friend of ours, who was vegan, invited us over for brunch. It looked like a lovely spread....very similar to that of a regular brunch. A lot of it was tofu and made to look like various things...such as scrambled eggs etc. It did look lovely.....but....it didn't sit too well in our stomachs. Two of the dc threw up and the other one felt like it. Sooo...we've never tried it since. Not sure if it was the tofu, or some of the other ingredients she used.....but whichever it was, it didn't sit all that well. We went grocery shopping last night....I'm stocked up on various nuts and seeds....so I'm good to go with all of that. Just have to get my stomach to settle down..... Linda

I suppose it's a process of elimination, as it were, to discover what food items bother your stomach, Linda. Dd knows that if she has any carbonated drink or any foods containing inulin, her tummy will swell up. Ditto things like bran fibre, I won't touch it either. I don't buy high-fibre anything. Some breads are ok, some not; the less ingredients, the better. And I read every label. Sometimes a pattern emerges, ie, a particular ingredient just happens to be on the pack/on the menu each time you feel horrible. A food/symptom diary can be a huge help in uncovering the culprit/s. Dd had to keep a food/symptom diary for the dietitian. Just like what you've prepared, but she then had to write any symptoms she noticed after each meal. I don't drink bottled juice, though the fresh strawberry/ apple juice today was fine. Too much fructose is not good for dd, too much chocolate is very bad for me. Sadly. Too much milk makes me ill, and I rarely eat cream for the same reason. Water is good. I drink it from the tap; we're very, very lucky to have good water. So far. As for the tofu, after reading of your horrible experience with it (though it's kind of amusing in a perverse way), I can see why you'd never want to eat it again. I don't like tofu-trying-to-be-something-else. We have it plain, just cooked in a little olive oil and soy sauce, and when it's almost heated through, I throw in some vegetables, usually including bok choy, and cook them lightly. It's delicious. And no one is sick! The tofu I buy is like a quarter-inch thick square of .... tofu. ;D I chop it into smaller squares. It's a bit like eating tasty pencil erasers. ;D ;D This place seems to offer online delivery of chia seeds to your area, or try your local health food or bulk store. They're becoming quite popular, and are much easier to get here now. We have a Bulk Barn here in St. John's (that's where I get the Quinoa)....but it's over on the other corner of the city. I will check the next time I am in there for chia seeds. The homeopath told me to stay off of juice (It's mostly sugar and water and doesn't contain any real juice), coffee, pop (I never drank this before anyway) and milk. So....I thought about it...and then asked her...."So...that leaves water....what else can I drink...to which she donned a ;D look and raised her two thumbs up ;D ;D. I know quite a few of the foods that bother my stomach (and the list gets longer as I get older ) but....I can east most things and not be bothered that day....it's the next morning/day that I am really sick. Then it is anything and everything.... The naturopath summed it up well when she said, "It's like any food I eat is toxic to my system"....and that's exactly how it feels.... The homeopath feels I would do better without any grains and mostly meat and vegetables. I do feel best when I eat that way.....but it's so hard to give up pasta...and all the other things I so desperately love. Oh well...it's such an interesting subject

I like it, but the homeopath feels I should stay away from it.
I find with many things that I've been eating/drinking all of my life may have been causing trouble....but I just wasn't aware of it. Like pasta...I really like it, but now know when I do eat it, it does cause me to feel sluggish and a bit off.
